Europe seen from the south: the islanders and the continent
“The project “Europe seen from the south: islanders and continent” – SOuSeEU aims to strengthen the sense of belonging of the citizens of the Mediterranean islands to the European Union, through a twinning initiative between the various island communities. Promoted by AICCRE Italy in collaboration with the Association of Local Councils of Malta (LCA), the project seeks to encourage the exchange of experiences and good practices between the islands, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation for sustainable development and European integration.
The initiative highlights the unique challenges and opportunities of Europe’s islands. Through events, the creation of a discussion platform and a collective action plan, the project aims to address these challenges and propose solutions at both national and European level.
AICCRE Sardinia coordinates local activities and collaborates with the Regional Council of Sardinia, ensuring the involvement of local and regional authorities. This twinning is intended to be a starting point for a wider network involving other Mediterranean and European islands, with the aim of organising conferences, workshops and meetings with local stakeholders to discuss specific territorial issues and develop common proposals.
The SOuSeEU project promotes sustainability, social inclusion and territorial cohesion by encouraging the active participation of citizens and local and regional authorities. Through these actions, the project contributes to building a more inclusive, sustainable and cohesive Europe by improving the cultural and environmental heritage of island communities.”
