Constitution & Election Process
The Executive Committee of the Association is composed of 9 members and a full-time Executive Secretary of the Association. The nine members are elected as follows:
- one member to serve as Chairperson, from amongst all the Councillors
- three members from the general list, from amongst all the Councillors
- five Presidents of the Regions, from amongst the Councillors of the respective Region
The members of the Executive Committee are elected through different elections as described above upon the principle of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote, and an election takes place every four years. All Councillors in office can be nominated to contest as candidates in the election of the Executive Committee. Once elected, Committee members are obliged to attend all meetings of the Committee.
The Electoral Commission is responsible for the Local Councils Association election process.
