The following letter has been sent to the Chairman of the Water Services Corporation urging the Corporation to come to terms with the LCA in order to regularise the position on trenching and other works carried out by the WSC in zones under the jurisdication of Local Councils:

14th January 2010

Our Ref 9/99

Chairman
Water Services Corporation
Luqa.

Dear Sir,

Agreement between the LCA and WSC

As you aware, both sides have been trying to reach an agreement on trenching and road reinstatement undertaken on potable and waste water mains network for quite a number of years. You will also recall that a meeting took place under the chairmanship of Hon Chris Said some months ago.

Since then nothing has materialised and the promised framework has been left hanging to the detriment of the Local Governments in Malta and Gozo.

There are two pending issues:

  1. the large amounts of money that are due to Local Governments in Malta and Gozo, whereby we are in the process of taking legal action against the WSC; and

  1. the conclusion of the said agreement on the basis of a paper prepared by Mr. Carmel Zammit, Chief Architect & Civil Engineer of the WSC dated 14th March, 2007.

The LCA is kindly requesting that the agreement is concluded by the end of February 2010, failing which the LCA would be constrained to consider issuing directives to all Local Governments that would preclude the approval of permits to the WSC.

Your early consideration would be highly appreciated.

Jimmy Magro,

Executive Secretary.
